Giving your Christmas waste to illegal dumpers could get you fined

Green Party Urban Development spokesperson and General Election candidate for Co Wicklow Deirdre de Burca today warned householders not to give their post-Christmas waste to cowboy waste disposal companies.

Cllr de Burca said: "Many householders are now faced with extra waste after the Christmas and holiday period, and with many collection services only beginning to resume it is important that this waste is properly disposed of.

"Householders have in the past have been caught out by companies who claim to be licensed and have the means to properly dispose of the waste, only to illegally dump it.

"I am urging all householders, if approached by companies offering waste disposal services, to ask to see a copy of their waste license. The responsibility lies with householders to ensure that their waste is properly disposed of. They could face fines or even prosecution if their waste is illegally dumped by somebody else," concluded Cllr de Burca.
