[Press Release: December 16th, 2002] GREENS CONCERNED ABOUT DUNLAVIN DEVELOPMENT PLANGreen Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, claims that she is exremely concerned about the proper impementation of the new Dunlavin Local Area Plan following certain planning irregularities which have arisen in the town."I have recently become aware of a new development of townhouses in the town which is in breach of the original planning permission granted" she says. "In particular, this new development appears to have encroached onto the public footpath and extra rooms appear to have been added to the development in the absence of the necessary planning permission".Councillor de Burca claims that she has discussed the matter with planning officials in the county council but that enforcement action appears to be very slow. "I am very concerned about the council's tardy response, given the fact that the new Dunlavin Development Plan is due to come on stream very soon" she says. "If the council is not implementing planning enforcement actions in a prompt and effective manner, how can we be confident that the new Development Plan will be properly policed and that developers will not be allowed to disregard the planning conditions that have been set down in their planning permissions"?
