GREENS CALL ON WICKLOW COUNTY COUNCIL TO HALT UNAUTHORISED WORKS ON GLENCAP COMMON

The Green Party has recently called on Wicklow County Council to intervene to halt what appear to be unauthorised works being carried out on commonage land at Glencap Common, Kilmacanogue.Green councillor, Deirdre de Burca, has been contacted by locals who are concerned at the extent of the activities which are occurring, including the use of a bulldozer, a Humvee and a number of 40 tonne trucks.

"I have been informed by locals that when this issue was reported to Wicklow County Council, the council responded that the individual in question was laying a telephone line and that this did not constitute unauthorised works" says de Burca. "However, having examined the site in question I cannot accept this explanation" she says.

The Green Party councillor reports that a track has been created across the Commons which is 40 foot wide and approximately 300 yards long. "This track leads up to the gateway of the individal responsible for these works" she says. "It is completely unacceptable that this kind of activity can be permitted on public land such as commonage. I am calling on the council to properly investigate these works and to put a halt to them immediately".
