[Press Release: July 29th, 2003] Green launch petition for Southern Cross AreaThe Bray Green Party has recently launched a petition in the Southern Cross Area, seeking better facilities and amenities for people who live in the area. Local Gren Party councillor Deirdre de Burca and Area Representative Caroline Burrell are calling to up to 1,000 homes in the Southern Cross Area, encouraging residents to sign the petition."The Southern Cross Area has been hugely neglected over the past ten years" says de Burca. "For instance, despite the fact that there are almost 1,000 houses in the area, many of whom are young families with children, there is no local shop, playground facilities and a post-box has only recently been installed. We are encouraging local people to sign up to this petition which sets out a list of issues that people of the area want to see addressed. We will then present the petition to Bray Town Council and Wicklow County Council". Green Party Area Representative Caroline Burrell claims that this petition is long overdue. "As a resident of Belmont Estate in the Southern Cross with two young children, I have been frustrated at the absolute lack of facilites provided" she says. "Because many of the families who moves into the area took a while to settle in, I think it is only now that people are mobilising and becoming aware of how the area needs to develop. Better public transport for the area is another priority area that we are insisting must be addressed" she says.
