New Sports Bar in Bray may add to teenage drinking problem say Greens

Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca , has expressed her concern at the planning permission granted by Bray town Council for a Sports Bar on Adelaide Rd in the town, next to the Bowling Centre.

" Bray Town Council appears to have totally ignored the concerns expressed by residents who live in the Seafront area" says councillor de Burca. "There have been a lot of problems recently with public disorder and vandalism caused by young people emerging under the influence from bars and clubs on the seafront. Now the Town Council has granted planning permission for another Bar, next to the Bowling Centre, where many teenagers and young people hang out. This will only encourage youth drinking" she says.

Councillor de Burca has pointed out that there are already many bars in this area near the seafront. "A new bar only opened last year in the Dart Station, there is a new bar proposed for the Bray Wanderers site and there are many existing bars on the seafront itself. In my opinion Bray Town Council is thumbing its nose at the very real concerns of residents who live in the seafront area, many of whom are elderly" she says.
