Greens disappointed at Dell decision to relocate to Cherrywood

The Green Party has expressed its disappointment at the recent announcement by Dell that it intends relocating its Bray operations to the Cherrywood site at Loughlinstown.

According to Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, although local councillors had heard rumours of the likely relocation over the past few months, they had hoped that there was little truth to them.

"Dell has certainly been a flagship business and employer in Bray for many years, and the economic spin-offs from Dell for other businesses in the town was considerable" says de Burca. "It is disappointing to think that they have relocated to a business location that is so near to Bray. I am convinced that the availability of public transport- the Luas- at the Cherrywood site was part of the reason that it was so attractive to Dell".

The Green Party councillor has expressed her party's determination to ensure that another large company moves to occupy the Dell site. "We need to ensure that the location of significant businesses in Bray is encouraged, and that this land is not rezoned for residential purposes" she says. "We recently heard rumours that Ardmore studios was considering relocating elsewhere in County Wicklow. This would be a double blow for the town of Bray and we must to everything to ensure this does not happen".

The Green councillor has claimed that the appalling traffic situation in Bray combined with the patchy and poor public transport system makes it an unattractive destination for new businesses. "The coucil does not help matters by allowing roadworks to be carried out in a poorly-planned and ad hoc way, making the traffic problem in the town even worse" she says. "The Green councillors on Bray Town Council intend to address the issue of improving the overall traffic management in the town and we are hoping that we will receive support from the Labour Party and the Fianna Fail Party".
