[Press Release: October 19th, 2004] Greens call on Roche to secure site for recycling centres for Bray and GreystonesThe Green Party has called on the new Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche, to assist Wicklow County Council in identifying a suitable site for the long-awaited recycling centres for Bray and Greystones.Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca claims that Minister Dick Roche met with Bray councillors on Wicklow County Council last week to discuss the issue of a recycling centre for Bray. "The Minister is aware that his help will be needed in securing a suitable permanent site for the recycling centres in question" says de Burca. "It is a scandal that Bray and Greystones, with a population between them of approximately 45,000 people, do not have their own recycling centres. The lack of availability of suitable sites is a major problem but with the intervention of a Minister, these problems should be possible to overcome". The Green Party councillor points out that she proposed an amendment to the current Draft County Development Plan stating the council's intention to establish Recycling Centres for Bray and Greystones as a matter of priority. She has called on Minister Roche to use his new powers as Minister for the Environment to "make the objective of the Draft Plan a reality". De Burca claims that one of the issues raised repreatedly on the doorsteps during the local election campaign earlier this year was the lack of such a recycling centre in Bray. "Wicklow Town and Arklow are putting us to shame at the moment with their impressive council-run recycling centres" she says. "We need the Minister's help to make sure that Bray and Greystones can provide the same facilities to their residents".
