As part of the annual an Taisce Spring Clean, the Green Party in Bray recently organised a clean up of Bray Head. Over 20 bags of rubbish were collected on the North side of Bray Head, while volunteers cleaned up various parts of the Head including the Cliff Path, Naylor's Cove and Bray Head summit.

"We were very happy with the good turn out on the day" says Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca. "We found passers by very willing also to take a few bags and to do their bit about cleaning up the Head. However, we were horrified at the amount of waste that was lying on various parts of the Head, in particular the number of beer bottles and cans that were obviously left discarded by groups of young people drinking up there. This cannot continue or we will see the amenity of the Head being destroyed for all".

Green Party councillor, Caroline Burrell, claimed that local residents had complained of having to report anti-social behaviour on Bray Head to Bray Garda Station. "Nobody objects to young people enjoying the amenity of the Head" she says "but they must not treat the area as a dump or somewhere they can build fires and have late-night drinking sessions. Cleaning up the Head once a year is not the answer. This problem really needs to be tackled".

Councillor Ciaran O'Brien called for a proper Management Plan for Bray Head. "There is a huge amount of local support for protecting and maintaining the Head" says O'Brien. "However, Bray Town Council must also play its part. We need a proper Management Plan for Bray Head, that will cover issues such as litter, fires, quad-biking, signage, protection of habitats etc. We hope to get the support of other councillors on Bray Town Council to have such a Plan implemented".
