De Burca seeks meeting with Wicklow County Council about Bray Recycling Centre

Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, in her new role as Chairperson of Bray Town Council, has sought a formal meeting with the Chairperson of Wicklow County Council and its Director of Environmental Services, in order to discuss the issue of a recycling centre for Bray.

"This is an issue of enormous urgency" says de Burca. "Minister Dick Roche tells us that he has provided over two million euro for a recycling centre for Bray, but that no tangible progress has been made by Wicklow County Council in securing a site for the centre".

Cllr de Burca explains that as Wicklow County Council is the waste authority for County Wicklow, it has the responsibility to develop a recycling centre for Bray, rather than Bray Town Council. "The delays to date have been frustrating and difficult to understand" says de Burca. "There certainly is a perception that there is not enough of a sense of urgency about securing a site for the centre in the environs of Bray. Meanwhile huge numbers of bray residents drive regularly as far as Wicklow Town to use the recycling centre there. This is not sustainable".

The Green Party councillor says that she hopes that by organising a formal meeting with Mr Michael Nicholson, Director of Environmental Services of Wicklow County Council, she will be able to ensure that both councils put all of their energies into the business of urgently identifying a site for the recycling centre for Bray. "Where there is a will, there is a way" she says. "We must make sure that the necessary political will is put behind the task of identifying a suitable site for the Bray recycling centre immediately".
