[Press Release: June 17th, 2005] Proposal for developing golf club lands is welcome but should avoid building on flood plain say GreensGreen Party councillors on Bray Town Council have welcomed new of the new proposals for developing the Ravenswell golf club lands in Bray but have expressed concerns about any proposals to build on the flood plain of the Dargle River.Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca has claimed that a majority of her colleagues on Bray Town Council voted to zone the flood plain of the Dargle River for Town Centre purposes as part of the new Bray Town Development Plan. "The three Green councillors on the council argued that we should not put this zoning in place unless we had access to scientific flood risk assessment studies that would show that building on these lands would not increase the flood risk in other parts of the town. Unfortunately they went ahead with zoning the land nearest to the Dargle river for high rise commercial and residential development in the absence of any flood risk assessment study". The Green Party have stated that the proposed development for the Bray Golf Club lands is larger than anything previously seen in Ireland. "Even the Docklands Development or the Dundrum Town Centre development can't compare to this" says de Burca. "We have only one chance to get it right and it is the responsibility of councillors and residents of Bray to scrutinise the planning application well and to submit their proposals regarding how it can be improved". The Green Party claims that the issues of public transport, social housing and above all adequate open space and community facilities will be priority areas. "We intend as local Green Party councillors to try to influence this new development so that it meets the needs of future residents of the wider Bray community".
