[Press Release: February 14th, 2005] Greens welcome clean-up of Hollybrook unauthorised traveller's encampmentThe Green Party has welcomed the massive clean-up by Wicklow County Council of approximately 400 tonnes of waste illegally dumped at the site of the unauthorised traveller's encampment at Hollybrook, Bray.According to Green Party councillor on Wicklow County Council, Deirdre de Burca, the clean-up of this site was one of the priorities of the newly elected Green Party councillors on Bray Town Council. "We have consistently raised this issue both on Bray Town Council and Wicklow County Council since the local elections last year" says de Burca. "We were extremely concerned for the health of those travellers living on the site, and in particular for the traveller children who were surrounded by the accumulated waste of the past eight year period". Councillor Caroline Burrell claimed to be very satisfied with the council's action and insisted that the next step must be to source suitable accommodation for the traveller families on the site. Councillor Ciaran O'Brien stated that the clean up of this site at one of the most important entry points to the town would greatly improve the public image of Bray as well as meeting the concerns of many residents who lived near the site or who had to travel past it every day.
