[Press Release: September 19th, 2005] Kilmacanogue must not become part of the expanding town of Bray says de BurcaGreen Party councillor on Wicklow County Council has called on her fellow colleagues not to support any proposal that would see the village of Kilmacanogue become part of the expanding town of Bray. De Burca made her comments as Bray councillors on Wicklow County Council examined proposal by the council’s planners to plan for development in Kilmacanogue as part of a Bray Environs Plan."What is being proposed is that new development in Kilmac will for part of a bigger Bray Environs Plan" says de Burca. "In fact, this will mean that rather than remaining as a stand-alone village with its own identity, Kilmac will become just a suburb of a growing Bray. I do not believe that this is what the people of Kilmac want and I, along with other local councillors such as Cllr Christopher Fox, will strongly oppose such proposals". The Green Party councillor says that the village of Kilmac has suffered enough from being severed by the N11 and that it should not now become part of the expanding town of Bray. "Kilmac is a village in its own right" she says. "Wicklow County Council’s planning policies should be aimed at protecting the character and identity of existing towns and villages and separating them with Green Belts rather than allowing development to sprawl out in such a way that towns and villages all merge into one other as part of one large concrete belt".
