De Burca Welcomes progress on Bray & Greystones Swimming Pool Projects

Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, today welcomed the approval of the Preliminary Reports, submitted by Wicklow County Council and Bray Town Council, for new swimming pools in Greystones & Bray. According to de Burca, these approvals will allow the Councils to arrange to have the detailed contract documents prepared for the proposed works.

The Green Party councillor claims she was very excited to learn that the Bray project facilities will include a 25 X 13 metre swimming pool, learner pool, sauna and steam room, changing village, fitness centre and associated facilities. She reports that the Greystones facilities will include a 6 lane - 25m swimming pool, learner and toddler pools, Gym suite, fitness suite and a health / therapy suite.

"Under the Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme, I am aware that grants of up to 3.8 million euros are available towards either the refurbishment of an existing pool or the provision of a new pool, subject in either case to the total grant not exceeding 80% of the eligible cost of the project or, in the case of a project located in a disadvantaged area, 90% of the eligible cost" says de Burca.

She adds that financial support is available towards the cost of the swimming pool, toddler pool, sauna and steam room.

"I am delighted to hear of the approval of the Preliminary Report for these new swimming pool projects and to the green light being given to Bray Town Council to proceed to the next stage of the project," de Burca says.
