Bray Youth Prayer initiative should be highly commended says de Burca

Green Party councillor and Chairperson of Bray Town Council, Councillor Deirdre de Burca, has publicly commended the young Bray people who were involved in organising a week-long "Pray In" in the town.

Cllr de Burca made her comments having visited the 24/6 Prayer Initiative at 27, Main St Bray, over the Golden Discs shop. The Prayer Initiative started at 9am on the 31st October and is to finish on Saturday 5th November with a prayer ceremony from 7pm-9pm.

"I think at a time when we are hearing a lot of bad news about young people and the drink and drugs culture in which many of them become involved, it is really inspiring to see a positive initiative like this one being organised by young people in the town" says de Burca. "The literature produced by the organizers state that the purpose of the event is to call everyone who wants to see a difference in the town of Bray to come and pray for an hour".

De Burca says that the premises for the prayer initiative is a very pleasant, open one, with people free to come and spend up to an hour praying, writing, drawing or meditating.

"The initiative has been organised by young people from a variety of different churches including Catholic, Methodist, and Church of Ireland" she says. "The aim is obviously to use the power of prayer to encourage a positive future for the town of Bray. I think regardless of what your spiritual beliefs are, the opportunity to take a short break from the business of everyday life and to enter a quiet space that is dedicated to prayer or mediation is a very welcome one. The young people involved in organising this initiative are to be highly commended".
