Council officials must deliver on Recycling Centre for Bray says De Burca

Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, has called for Bray Town Council and Wicklow County Council officials to step up their efforts to deliver on a Recyling Centre for Bray.

The Green Party councillor claims she is frustrated at the lack of progress that has taken place to date in relation to identifying an appropriate site in the town for the recycling centre.

"My Green Party colleagues and myself promised the people of Bray in the local elections last year that we would deliver on a badly-needed recycling centre for the town" says de Burca. "Since getting elected we have done our bit as councillors. We put a specific goal into the new Bray Development Plan committing the council to provide a recycling centre for the town as a matter of priority. We also broadened the zoning in a number of areas around the town in order to allow for a recycling centre to be developed on those sites. Now it's up to the council officials to identify a suitable site and deliver on the recycling facility"

Cllr de Burca claims that Wicklow County Council has a bigger role to play in delivering on the recycling centre as it is the overall "waste authority" for Wicklow. But she claims that the Bray Town Council officials should be keeping up maximum pressure on the Wicklow officials, and bringing suitable sites in the town to their attention.

"I am aware myself of one or two sites that have recently become available in the town that I believe would be suitable for the centre" says de Burca. "I want to see the council officials acting quickly and trying to secure these sites for a recycling facility for Bray. The people of Bray have waited long enough. It is unacceptable that a large percentage of residents have to drive all the way to Wicklow Town with their recyclables. I am calling on council officials to take action now!"
