[Press Release: May 31st, 2005] Bray councilllors call for public submissions on speed limits in Wicklow as part of National review of Speed LimitsFollowing a recent meeting of the Bray councillors on Wicklow County Council at which the forthcoming national review of speed limits was discussed, Bray councillors have called for members of the public to make submissions regarding speed limits which should be increased or reduced. The national review of speed limits is being carried out to coincide with the transition from miles to kilometres. The Bray councillors were informed that proposed changes to the speed limits would be publicly advertised once they had been agreed by Wicklow County Council. The councillors argued that members of the public should be able to input in advance, so that they could influence the changes in speed limits that were proposed. Otherwise, councillors argued, the public would only be reacting to the proposals of the council. The meeting agreed that members of the public should be asked to make their submissions on changes that they wanted to see in speed limits in the county to Mr Seamus Walker, Director of Roads and Transportation with Wicklow County Council. It was pointed out that proposals could be made to increase or to reduce speed limits on roads in the county. Green Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, encouraged members of the public to take advantage of the opportunity. "Nobody knows the roads in Wicklow better then the people who live here and have to use them every day" she says. "If people feel strongly that the speed limits on roads in their areas are too high or too low, now is their chance to write to Wicklow County Council and make their views known".
