[Press Release: November 6th, 2005] De Burca urges public submissions on new Development Plan for Greystones/DelganyGreen Party councillor, Deirdre de Burca, has urged members of the public to make submissions on the new Local Area Plan for Greystones/Delgany 2006-2012.De Burca points out that the 1999 Greystones/Delgany Plan is being revised and that a Background Issues Paper linked to the new plan is on public display from 27th October 2005 up to, and including, 9th December 2005. "Submissions can be made in writing by members of the public during this period and should be addressed to the Senior Executive Officer, Planning and Economic Development, Wicklow County Council" says de Burca. "This is a very early stage of formulating the new Development Plan for the area and I would encourage people to make their submissions" The Green councillor points out that here is a huge amount of development planned for Greystones and Delgany over the next decade and that it is important local residents to feel that they have an opportunity to influence the kind of development that occurs. "The National Spatial Strategy has placed Greystones on the National Transport corridor to the south along the coast" she says. "The Regional Planning Guidelines have placed Greystones/Delgany as a Large Growth Town within the Metropolitan area. They see Greystyones/Delgany as capable of being economically self-sustaining, supporting educational, health and retail facilities and accommodating a population of between 15,000 and 25,000". De Burca says the rates of growth envisaged will certainly cause anxiety to many of the existing residents of the area. She has called upon members of the public to make written submissions to the council in relation to issues such as population and settlement strategy, employment and industry, retailing, community, infrastructure, heritage and landscape conservation and tourism and recreation.
