Cllr. Burrell welcomes €100,000 for Ballywaltrim Community Centre

The Dept of Community and Rural Affairs has recently released a list of projects that have received a total of €8 million to tackle disadvantage. Green Party Cllr. Caroline Burrell has welcomed €100,000 in funding which has been allocated to Ballywaltrim Community Centre in Bray. The funding, allocated from the Dormant Accounts Fund and the RAPID Leverage Fund, is aimed to enhance facilities and provide small scale equipment for youth groups. The funding is being targeted at community centres, schools and youth clubs located in areas of greatest need throughout the county.

Cllr. Burrell said: "This funding is a boost to schools tackling social disadvantage. The improved infrastructure and the extra resources will enhance the recreational facilities available for a huge number of students. I particularly welcome the funding for youth groups as these organisations play such an important role in our society, providing social, educational and skills training for many young people who find themselves with nowhere else to go. We have a quite a number of Youth Clubs here in Bray and we need to recognise what a valuable role they play and ensure that this funding is used in the best way possible to maximise the benefit for the students and teenagers who go there."

An extra €70 million will be spent by the Government tackling disadvantage this year, bringing the total expenditure to €800 million.
