[Press Release: February 27th, 2008] Green Party Cllrs. welcome dormant accounts funding for BrayGreen Party councillors on Bray Town Council recently welcomed the allocation of Dormant Accounts funding for disadvantaged areas in Bray. Under this funding announcement Bray will receive a total of €75,982."Today's announcement reflects a Government commitment to ring-fence significant levels of disbursements from dormant accounts for those areas designated as most disadvantaged" says Green Party councillor on Wicklow County Council, Cllr Ciaran O’ Brien. "The concentration of this type of support in RAPID areas ensures that resources are targeted at those communities most in need." Cllr Caroline Burrell welcomed the €22,500 allocated for a Support Worker to provide an Adult Education programme in St Fergal's Resource Centre in Bray and the €9,990 allocated to Fergal Óg's GAA Club for activities for local children. "This funding is very welcome and will certainly support the important activities being carried out by the St Fergal's Resource Centre and the Fergal Óg's GAA Club" he says. Cllr Caroline Burrell also welcomed the €22,742 allocated for a Support Worker to provide services for women affected by domestic violence. "Domestic violence remains a real problem in many communities" she says "and it is important that this funding is being targeted at women who are the victims of that violence". Green Party councillor, Cllr Steve Matthews, welcomed the €8,760 that has been allocated to the Little Bray After School's Programme. "The allocation of this funding by the Government recognises the importance of after-school support for children from disadvantaged backgrounds" he says. "The funding is very welcome and will help children from the Little Bray Area to get the help and support they need outside of school hours".
